Fresh from finding the net against Barcelona in La Liga, Akor Adams is turning his focus to a new kind of stage — the green and white of the Super Eagles.
The Sevilla striker, one of the latest call-ups to Nigeria’s national team, says he’s determined to give his all as the country battles to secure a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Footballrover reports.
“I just have to give what I can” — Akor Adams embraces the challenge
Nigeria’s qualification hopes hang in the balance. After eight matches, the Super Eagles sit third in their group with 11 points — three behind Benin Republic and South Africa, who both have 14.
To stand any chance of progressing, Nigeria must win their remaining two fixtures and hope other results go their way.
Speaking from the team’s camp in Polokwane, Adams shared his mindset heading into this critical window:
“I just have to give what I can for the team in general; whoever is playing, we give support, and if you’re called upon by the coach, you just do your best. There are a couple of guys that I’m in touch with, and I’m looking forward to making more relationships and also better friendships.”
It’s the voice of a player eager to belong — one aware that his contribution, however big or small, could shape Nigeria’s World Cup dream.
Sevilla form, Super Eagles opportunity
The 25-year-old forward arrives in camp brimming with confidence. Just days before joining the national team, Adams scored for Sevilla in their 4–1 victory over Barcelona, marking his second consecutive La Liga goal.
That kind of form has not gone unnoticed, adding to the excitement of his first Super Eagles invitation.
Still, competition for attacking spots is high at the national level. With Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Terem Moffi, and Tolu Arokodare all available, Adams may have to wait for his full debut.
But he appears ready to embrace the challenge, embodying the humility and hunger the team needs in this decisive stretch.
Meanwhile, Lesotho, Nigeria’s next opponents, have proven resilient. They held a star-studded Super Eagles side to a 1–1 draw in Uyo during the first leg.
Their only defeat so far came against Benin Republic, who overturned a goal deficit to win 2–1 in Abidjan.
The match in Maseru promises to be another test of character for Nigeria before the all-important home clash with Benin in Uyo.
