Nyima Nwagua grabbed his first  Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL goal of the 2023 season to help Rivers United secure victory over Dakkada FC during their away game on Saturday afternoon.

Naibe Akpesiri also had his name on the score sheet, grabbing the winning goal as Rivers United secured all three points at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

Dakkada had a strong start to the game with Emmanuel Ayaosi producing the first opportunity for the home team just seven minutes into the game, but his shot missed the mark.

Nine minutes later, the home side found themselves ahead at the Uyo stadium with Isaac George putting the host in front.

35 minutes on the clock, Rivers United leveled the score thanks to a superb counterattacking move by Nyima Nwagua and Paul Acquah.

The midfield grabbed his first assist of the campaign while the Ogoni born forward – Nyima opened his goal scoring account of the NPFL 23 season for the Port Harcourt outfit.

Five minutes later, the Pride of Rivers thought they’ve grabbed the lead only for Naibe Akpesiri to watch his header from a corner kick narrowly missed the target after coming off the foot of Dakkada goalie.

The Wike Boys kept pushing for another goal, and on the cusp of halftime Naibe Akpesiri was rewarded for his efforts by giving the visitors the lead at the Nest of Champions with a straightforward tap-in, made possible by Paul Acquah, who also picked up his second assist of the game.

While Dakkada was pushing for an equaliser, the Stanley Eguma side kept pushing to double their lead but only came close in 80th minute through Ifeanyi Francis, whose header towards goal was later flagged for offside.

United held on to their narrow lead till the final whistle to secure an away win and the vital three points to maintain their lead at the top of NPFL Group B table.
