Super Eagles forward Cyriel Dessers has finally opened his goal account for his new club Panathinaikos, leading the team to a narrow victory over Athens Kallithea FC during their Greek Cup clash on Wednesday evening.
The 30-year-old forward scored the decisive goal as Panathinaikos edged past their visitors 1-0 at the Apostolos Nikolaidis Stadium, booking their place in the next stage of the Greek Cup, Footballrover reports.
Cyriel Dessers’ Decisive Strike Secures Victory
Dessers’ goal came at the 30-minute mark, handing the home team a slim lead heading into the first-half break.
The second period saw a more cautious affair, with both sides failing to capitalize on opportunities. Despite this, The Greens held on for a favorable result by the final whistle.
This victory marked a strong rebound for Panathinaikos, following a run of mixed results that included two consecutive draws and a defeat.
Looking Ahead: Olympiacos Challenge
With the win secured, Dessers and his new teammates now turn their focus to their next fixture against Olympiacos on Sunday.
The Nigerian international joined Panathinaikos on a permanent three-year deal from Scottish side Glasgow Rangers, after much speculation surrounding his future despite his excellent form last season.
Dessers contributed 35 goal involvements for Rangers in 55 appearances last season — 29 goals and five assists.
He also recorded one goal and one assist in seven appearances this season before the switch and will be hoping to replicate that impact in Greece.
