However, his efforts were not enough this time to rescue his team during their UEFA Conference League Qualification Round 3 clash with Anderlecht on Thursday, Footballrover reports.

Philip Odebe Strikes, But FC Sheriff Held to Draw by Anderlecht

The Moldovan side hosted their Belgian counterparts at the Zimbru Stadium, with Odebe finding the net late in the game. In the end, both sides could only settle for a 1-1 draw.

The 18-year-old forward scored the equaliser that saved the home side from a potential defeat in front of their fans.

Despite his brilliance, Odebe and his teammates failed to progress to the next round of the continental competition after losing 1-4 on aggregate.

The Belgian side had already taken a commanding lead a week earlier, thrashing the Moldovans 3-0 in the first leg of the Conference League qualifier.

Still, the Nigerian striker is gradually proving his worth to FC Sheriff, now registering consistent performances in front of goal.

Key Moments from the Second Leg

Odebe’s goal came in the 81st minute, pulling Sheriff Tiraspol level after Nathan Saliba had given the visitors the lead just 10 minutes earlier.

Adriano Bertaccini delivered a corner that found Nathan Saliba inside the box. Saliba fired home with a brilliant finish, sending the ball inside the right post.

Shortly after, Amarildo Gjoni teed up Elijah Odebe inside the box, and the forward calmly rolled the ball past Colin Coosemans to make it 1-1.

Focus Turns Back to Domestic Football

This was his second consecutive goal for Sheriff and his third in seven appearances this season.

Earlier in the match, Mario Stroeykens missed a first-half penalty that could have given Anderlecht the lead before Saliba’s strike.

With their dream of European football now over, FC Sheriff will return to domestic action. They are set to face Sparta Selemet in Round 9 of the Moldovan Super Liga.
