Super Eagles defender Chidozie Awaziem has made a sensational return to FC Nantes, signing a three-year deal with the French Ligue 1 club.

After a spell in Major League Soccer with Colorado Rapids, the Nigerian international says he’s ready to give his all for the club that once felt like home, Footballrover reports.

This move marks a full-circle moment for Awaziem, who previously featured for Nantes during the 2017/18 season, making 23 appearances and scoring once.

The 27-year-old now returns with a wealth of experience gathered from playing in top-flight leagues across Spain, Turkey, Croatia, and the United States.

While with Colorado Rapids, Awaziem racked up 1,864 minutes over 21 appearances across MLS and the CONCACAF Champions Cup, delivering solid defensive performances and contributing one assist.

Speaking on his return to FC Nantes, Awaziem expressed deep joy and emotional connection to the club:

— “It’s amazing! I’m glad to be back here. It’s a real joy! Nantes is like my home. The people are lovely, the club is great, and I was really looking forward to this environment again.”

Awaziem’s Bold Promise: “I Came Back to Prove My Worth Again”

Awaziem explained that his decision to return was swift and easy after Nantes reached out. He felt it was the right time, and the opportunity reignited his passion for the yellow and green.

— “I came back to prove my worth again and help the team reach the best possible level. I undertake to give 100% to every opportunity offered to me. I am very happy to come back here, and I look forward to seeing you very soon in La Beaujoire.”

Since his first stint at Nantes, Chidozie Awaziem has enjoyed a career packed with experience.

After leaving the club in 2018, he returned to FC Porto and then ventured across European football, including a successful time at Leganès in Spain.

Despite all the new experiences, Nantes remained special to him.

Chidozie Awaziem is now focused on winning trophies and competing at the top level with the Canaries.

He made it clear that his goal is to help Nantes achieve their ambitions every season.

— “I also want to win trophies, play against the best teams, and help bring Nantes back to the top.”
