Super Eagles winger Moses Simon delivered a standout performance on Saturday evening, scoring his 8th Ligue 1 goal of the season as Nantes secured a 3-0 win over Montpellier.

The dominant victory confirmed top-flight survival for Nantes and sealed relegation for Akor Adams’ former club, marking the end of a troubled campaign for the visitors, Footballrover reports.

Simon, who had gone six matches without scoring, broke his goal drought in the 15th minute.

After being brought down in the box by Jordan Ferri, he confidently dispatched the penalty past the goalkeeper following a VAR review.

It was his second goal against Montpellier this season and his 8th Ligue 1 goal in 34 appearances, alongside ten assists.

Simon’s Ligue 1 goal ends long scoring drought

The 29-year-old had not found the net since March 30, when he scored in a 3-2 win over Le Havre.

Saturday’s goal came after a wait of one month and 13 days. He played 87 minutes before being substituted for Bahereba Guirassy.

Nantes, needing just a point to guarantee safety, made a fast start and dominated a Montpellier side that failed to register a single shot on target before halftime.

Francis Coquelin doubled the lead with a powerful strike, while Simon later assisted Matthis Abline for a superb third goal to cap off the win.

Montpellier’s 26th defeat set a Ligue 1 record for the fewest points in a season (16).

The visitors’ downfall was summed up by their 31st instance of conceding first this term, a pattern with an 80% loss rate.

Simon’s impact was decisive, both as a scorer and provider, ensuring Nantes finished strong while condemning Montpellier to Ligue 2.
