It was a historic climax to the season, with four teams—Bayelsa Queens, Nasarawa Amazons, Edo Queens, and Remo Stars Ladies—entering the final round with a realistic shot at winning the title, Footballrover reports.

Every goal and every decision carried immense weight in what became one of the tightest finishes in NWFL history.

Bayelsa Queens rise as Naija Ratels collapse

Defending champions Edo Queens faced off against a determined Nasarawa Amazons side, who needed just a win to clinch their first title since 2017.

Sitting on eight points from four matches, the Amazons had been the most consistent throughout the playoffs, boasting two wins and two draws.

Edo Queens, with two wins, a draw, and a loss, came into the game needing a win—but even that wouldn’t guarantee them the crown without favourable results elsewhere.

Their clash ended in disappointment for both sides. A red card to Nasarawa captain Josephine Mathias in the 74th minute didn’t tilt the game in Edo’s favour.

Despite having the numerical advantage, they failed to capitalise, and the game ended 0-0—handing a lifeline to the eventual champions.

However, the Jewels of Rivers had other plans. Titilayo Aweda struck twice—once in the ninth minute and again just after the break—before Aishat Animashaun pulled one back for the Sky Blue Stars ladies in the 70th minute.

The game ended 2-1 in favour of the Garden City Angels, pushing Remo Stars down to fifth place.

Then came the decisive performance from Bayelsa Queens. Knowing only a convincing win and favourable results could deliver the title, they stormed into action.

Vera Samuel broke the deadlock 27 minutes in, only for Naija Ratels to equalise on the stroke of halftime via Itunu Adeshina.

That ultimately sealed a dramatic 4-1 win that catapulted them to the top of the table—and back to glory as NWFL Super Six winners, their first title since the 2021/22 season.
