Rivers Angels’ coach Tosan Blankson couldn’t hide his satisfaction after his team’s hard-fought victory over Delta Queens, a win he had confidently predicted before the match.

Coach Blankson made a bold prediction before kickoff, and his team backed it up with a thrilling 2-1 victory on Wednesday, Footballrover reports.

The highly anticipated South-South derby lived up to expectations, but the visitors proved they were the superior side.

Rivers Angels outclass Delta Queens in tough battle

The Jewels of Rivers continued their dominance over their hosts with a hard-earned win in their Nigeria Women Football League matchday four clash at the Stephen Keshi Stadium.

Delta Queens struck first in the 17th minute through Dagogo Favour’s indirect free kick, but Rivers Angels responded just before halftime as Patience Otubo found the net with a clinical finish.

Mary Moses sealed the comeback early in the second half, tapping in a precise cross from Peace Effiong in the 49th minute.

Despite Delta Queens’ late pressure, Rivers Angels held firm to secure a crucial away victory.

Coach Tosan Blankson was full of praise for his players after the match, confidently stating,

“I told you before the match that Delta Queens couldn’t withstand us, and it played out that way.”

Before the game, he had expressed confidence in his squad, insisting that while he respected Delta Queens, their current squad lacked the strength to compete with Rivers Angels.

He also downplayed the intensity of the rivalry, noting that the Asaba Queens’ squad had undergone major changes since his time coaching there.

Meanwhile, former captain of the Delat Ladies Taiwo Afolabi celebrated the win over her former club, expressing excitement at securing maximum points.

She is already looking ahead to Rivers Angels’ next fixture.

The Garden City side will now shift focus to yet another exciting South-South showdown as they set to host Bayelsa Queens at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium on February 12 for their matchweek five encounter.
