Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen continued his impressive run in the UEFA Champions League this season, registering his first assist of the competition to inspire Galatasaray to another victory over Liverpool F.C..
The first leg of their Round of 16 clash at RAMS Park on Tuesday night saw the Nigerian international play a decisive role as the Lions secured a narrow 1–0 win over the English Premier League side, Footballrover reports.
Victor Osimhen Champions League impact inspires Galatasaray
The two teams had previously met on September 30, 2025, when Osimhen also proved decisive by scoring the only goal of the match from the penalty spot to give the Turkish champions a 1–0 home victory.
Once again, the Nigerian forward delivered when it mattered most—this time providing the assist that sealed another identical scoreline.
Osimhen rose brilliantly to meet a corner and directed a powerful header into the six-yard box, where Mario Lemina glanced the ball into the net just seven minutes into the game.
That early strike ultimately proved to be the winner.
Osimhen Champions League form and Player of the Match dominance
Before kickoff, the striker was visibly emotional after spotting a giant tifo created by Galatasaray fans in honour of him and his family.
The 27-year-old entered the clash as the leading contender in this season’s Champions League Player of the Match rankings.
Osimhen has already collected the award four times—more than any other player in the competition so far.
He climbed to the top of the standings after being named Player of the Match despite Galatasaray’s 3–2 defeat to Juventus F.C. last month.
Several top stars, including Kylian Mbappé, Erling Haaland, and Harry Kane, have each won the award three times.
Others on three include Charles De Ketelaere, Anthony Gordon, Jens Petter Hauge, and Francisco Trincão.
Osimhen’s outstanding campaign is also reflected in his scoring record, with seven goals in nine Champions League appearances this season.
