Victor Mbaoma has announced his return to the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) in style, inspiring Remo Stars to a hard-fought draw during the opening fixture of their 2025/26 campaign.
The 28-year-old forward left APR FC at the end of last season and signed a two-year deal with the Sky Blue Stars, marking his third stint at the NPFL side in grand fashion, Footballrover reports.
Rivers United Strike First, Victor Mbaoma Levels for Remo
It took him only a few minutes on the pitch to make his mark, grabbing the equaliser that helped Remo Stars salvage a 1-1 draw against the Finidi George side at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta on Friday evening.
Despite his impact, Mbaoma could only manage 20 minutes of action as he picked up an injury and was subsequently replaced by Adama Goita.
It was the Port Harcourt outfit who started the game on the front foot, thanks to Okon Aniekeme, who found the back of the net to stun the defending champions barely three minutes into the encounter.
Five minutes later, the home side drew level through Mbaoma. Michael Ibe came close to giving the Sky Blue Stars the lead from a free kick, but his powerful strike could only rattle the woodwork.
The first half ended with both sides locked at 1-1, and the second period of the game failed to produce any further goals despite several attempts.
10-Man Rivers United Hold On
In the heat of four minutes of additional time, Temple Emekayi received a marching order, reducing the visiting side to ten men.
However, the Garden City side showed resilience and held firm, making sure the scoreline remained the same.
Both Remo and Rivers United were forced to share the spoils on Matchday One of the NPFL 2025/26 season.
