Shooting Stars fought with everything they had, but it wasn’t enough to escape a crushing defeat at the death in their matchday 28 of the Nigerian Premier Football League campaign.
In a tense showdown at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, the Oluyole Warriors held their ground until the very last moments—only to see victory snatched away in the 97th minute, Footballrover reports.
Late drama hands Shooting Stars’ heartbreak at Katsina United
The clash between Shooting Stars and Katsina United was a battle of endurance and grit.
Both sides pressed hard, with the visitors showing determination throughout.
Just when it seemed 3SC would escape with a point, Ahmed Taofeek struck in stoppage time, handing Katsina United a dramatic 1-0 victory and leaving the visitors heartbroken.
Reacting to the result, 3SC head coach Gbenga Ogunbote admitted the loss was a bitter pill to swallow.
He pointed to fatigue as a major factor, explaining that the team’s late arrival affected their ability to perform at full capacity.
“It is unfortunate that we lost towards the last minute of added time, when we conceded the goal. I think the boys have done very well. They put in their very best, considering what we faced when we were coming here,” Ogunbote said.
“We came here yesterday evening, so you can see the boys could not really express themselves due to fatigue,” he stressed.
Ogunbote looks ahead after painful loss
Despite the heartbreak at Katsina United, Ogunbote praised his players for their resilience.
He urged them to move on quickly and shift their focus to the next challenge—another away fixture against Akwa United.
“This game has come and gone, we are thinking of the next game, that’s it,” the coach concluded.
With the race for points intensifying, Shooting Stars will need to regroup fast as they aim for a stronger finish in the league.
But for now, they remain in third place with 43 points, pending the result from Kano Pillars clash and others.
