It was indeed a dramatic weekend in Serie A, as two brilliant goals from Samuel Chukwueze were overshadowed by the intervention of VAR as AC Milan fought back from the brink to secure a thrilling 3-3 draw against Sassuolo at the Stadio Mapei-Citta del Tricolore.
The Super Eagles star, returning to Milan’s starting lineup, endured a rollercoaster of emotions, seeing two impressive goals disallowed by the video assistant referee, Footballrover reports.
Despite Sassuolo’s early dominance, with goals from Andrea Pinamonti and Armand Laurienté, Chukwueze’s spirited efforts kept Milan’s hopes alive.
The Nigerian forward Chukwueze thought he had pulled one back for his team when he put the ball in the back of the net seven minutes after their hosts took a two-goal lead, but the flag was raised for offside.
After Rafael Leão and Luka Jović clawed back goals for the visitors, Chukwueze yet again thought he had sealed a stunning comeback with a second strike, only to be denied by VAR for offside again.
The Nigerian international was denied his second and third Serie A goal of the season by the VAR.
Despite his disappointment, the impact of the 24-year-old winger was undeniable, contributing significantly before being substituted for Christian Pulisic.
However, it was Noah Okafor, another substitute, who emerged as Milan’s hero, clinching a late equaliser with a superb volley in the 84th minute to salvage a 3-3 draw.

Chukwueze had a decent performance though, tallying 36 touches, completing 76% of his passes, and demonstrating his attacking threat with three shots, despite featuring for just 65 minutes.
While Milan’s recent form has been shaky, Chukwueze’s resilience offers hope for a turnaround, with a crucial Europa League clash against Roma looming large.
