Worlu emphasized the crucial role played by sports writers in the development of Nigerian football at both club and national team levels.
He urged Flykite Productions, led by Mr. Jenkins Alomona, to involve the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) to ensure comprehensive coverage of the competition.
The burgeoning interest and increasing sponsorship of football at the club level in Nigeria have been warmly received by footballers, fans, and stakeholders alike.
The recently concluded 2022/23 NPFL season was hailed as a resounding success, prompting Worlu to express his gratitude to Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye’s led IMC for their exceptional efforts.
He also acknowledged the innovative contributions of Sani Zubair, the national president of the Nigeria Referees Association (NRA).
Worlu highlighted the positive impact of prompt payments to referees during the 2022/23 season, which resulted in heightened competition within the league.
He pointed out the impressive performance of newly promoted Bendel Insurance, who remained undefeated until they were defeated by Rivers United at the Super 6 in Lagos.
In terms of financial rewards, reports indicate that each team participating in the Naija Super 8 tournament will earn N3 million per game.
Additionally, the runner-up will be awarded N9 million, while the ultimate winner will claim a prize of N25 million.
While lauding the organizers for their commitment to the welfare of clubs and players throughout the tournament, Worlu raised the question of how sports writers would be incorporated into the process.
Not holding an official position within SWAN, he expressed his perspective as an observer who recognizes the indispensable role of sports writers and journalists in promoting Nigerian football.
Worlu called on Flykite Productions to involve SWAN in the budgeting and expenditure of the Naija Super 8 competition, particularly during the playoffs and main event in Lagos, Nigeria.
He stressed that sports writers have a significant duty and impact in the development of Nigerian football, both at the club and national team levels.
Worlu humbly requested once again that sports writers and journalists be carried along throughout the tournament, emphasizing the importance of their inclusion.
By actively involving sports writers and journalists in the planning and execution of the Naija Super 8 competition, Flykite Productions can ensure comprehensive and inclusive coverage of the event, providing fans and stakeholders with up-to-date information, insightful analysis, and engaging narratives.
