His impressive performances, especially in Europe, have put him in the spotlight, but what exactly sets him apart from other top keepers on the continent?

The former Super Eagles’ goalkeeper coach, Alloy Agu, recently shed light on the reasons why Okoye stands out, Footballrover reports.

And according to Agu, Okoye’s combination of height, age, and natural ability positions him as one of the best goalkeepers Africa can boast of today.

Agu, who claimed to have discovered Okoye’s talent during his time at Dusseldorf, said he made the crucial decision to bring him into the national team.

He also emphasised that while it’s tough to secure a starting spot at top European clubs, Okoye’s hard work has made such a challenge look effortless.

However, Agu cautioned that Maduka Okoye cannot afford to relax. With competition fierce, he must continue his development at Udinese and be ready to seize future opportunities for both club and country.

Agu, who was quoted by Tutto Udinese said,

“It is difficult to take a starting spot at top European clubs, but Okoye has made it easy. However, Maduka cannot afford to relax; he must continue to work hard.”

“I have always known about his talent since his time at Dusseldorf. I saw his potential and brought him to the national team, despite not everyone believing in him. It is not a stroke of luck that he has risen through the ranks.”

“I think he is one of the best African goalkeepers, not only because of his talent but also because of a combination of factors such as age and height.”

“I brought both him and Nwabali to the national team. Nwabali made his debut against Mexico in Los Angeles, while Okoye against Brazil. I coached both of them. Having two quality goalkeepers for Nigeria is important.”

“At the moment, Nwabali is doing well, and Okoye has to bide his time. Maduka must play regularly and do well with Udinese, so that he will be ready when he gets the chance to play for Nigeria too.”

Maduka Okoye’s journey is one of determination and talent, with the 25-year-old poised for continued success, having kept four clean sheets for Udinese this season.
