Joe Aribo hit the target but wasn’t enough as Eintracht Frankfurt won the Europa League after defeating Rangers on penalties at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan.
Eintracht Frankfurt was hoping to win the Europa League for the second time after winning it in 1980 when it was known as the UEFA Cup and they did in stunning fashion on Wednesday night.
This season, the German team has been exceptional in the Europa League, having beaten Real Betis, Barcelona, and West Ham United in the knockout phase.
While Rangers struck above their expectations to achieve the Europa League final spot for the first time since 2008, when they were defeated by Zenit St Petersburg.

The Gers put in amazing performances to defeat Borussia Dortmund and Red Star Belgrade. Sporting Braga and RB Leipzig have both confirmed their attendance in Seville.
Both teams entered the game looking like champions, with the Germans having the best opportunity of the first half, but Allan McGregor was on spot to squeeze Ansgar Knauff’s effort wide of the post.
Rangers had a handful of half-chances as Joe Aribo shot wide from long range and John Lundstram’s effort was pushed over the bar. The game was very close at the half, but it ended goalless.
Before the Super Eagles man – Aribo beats Trapp after Tuta made a mistake 12 minutes into the second half to give the Scottish side the lead.
After Sow headed the ball back towards his own goal, the Frankfurt defender slipped.
Aribo bursts past the defender and maintains his cool under pressure before placing his left-footed strike into the bottom-left corner.
Borre scored at the near post 12 minutes later to put the Germans back in the game.
Kostic whipped in a threatening cross from the left flank that swerved between Goldson and Bassey.
Borre was at the right place at the right time and fired past McGregor into the bottom-right corner.
After Joe Aribo put the Gers ahead in the second half, the German outift had to come from behind to force a shoot-out.
Rafael Borre was on hand to convert Filip Kostic’s cross to tie the game.
In normal or extra time, neither team could force a winner, prompting penalties.

Borre played the hero for the second time on the night, dispatching his effort into the top-left corner to secure the Europa League title and a place in the Champions League next season.
Frankfurt’s 42-year wait for a second European title comes to an end as they are now the 2022 Europa League Champions.

Frankfurt win the Europa League with an undefeated campaign, following in the footsteps of Chelsea in 2018/19 and Villarreal last season.
