Arsenal defender, Gabriel Martinelli has expressed his dissatisfaction with Micheal Oliver’s decision to dismiss him during the Gunners’ Premier League match against Wolves on Thursday night.
The 20-year-old admitted that accepting the red card verdict is difficult for him, and that he is disappointed, but delighted with his teammates for fighting so hard to keep the result and the win away from home.
Martinelli attempted to prevent Wolves from having a quick throw-in by pushing a player over before racing back up the field in chase of Chiquinho, who he also sent down.
The Brazilian appeared to be expecting to be cautioned, but was taken aback when he saw Oliver issued him two yellow and then a red card.
Shortly after the game, Gabriel Martinelli wrote on his Twitter page saying;
“I’m upset because it’s difficult to accept that as a red card. But I am proud the team fought to keep the result and the win.”

Martin Keown, a former Arsenal defender, also criticised referee Michael Oliver for dismissing Gabriel Martinelli for two fouls in the same sequence of play, calling the judgement ‘pedantic.’
Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s enraged coach, has requested an answer for Martinelli’s hasty red card.
Martinelli’s suspension was Arteta’s 15th and fourth red card in 2022 since taking over in 2019, but the head coach claims his players are not violent and wants to know why they keep getting in trouble with the officials.
Arsenal has had FOUR players sent off in their last SIX matches in all competitions.
Looks like Arteta has a bigger ‘discipline’ problem in his squad or could it be possible that the referee – Micheal Oliver misjudged Martinelli’s dismissal?
