Nigeria’s U-20 women’s football team, the Falconets, are fired up and ready to conquer their rivals to lift the world cup, according to their coach, Christopher Musa Danjuma.
Coach Musa is brimming with confidence as the team ramps up preparations for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, set to kick off in Colombia from August 31st to September 22nd, Footballrover reports.
Danjuma is ecstatic about the team’s progress, raving about their hard work and impressive improvement.
He believes the girls have developed a strong sense of camaraderie and ambition, and he’s excited to see how they’ll shine on the global stage.
Knowing that every game will be a battle, Danjuma is urging his team to be razor-sharp from the first whistle.
He’s particularly wary of their group stage opponents, Korea Republic and Germany, emphasising that these matches will be crucial for their chances of advancing to the knockout rounds.
But he’s also quick to warn his players not to underestimate Venezuela, a team that has proven its mettle in qualifying.
The Falconets, two-time World Cup silver medalists, are drawn into Group D alongside Germany, Venezuela, and Korea Republic.
They’ll be based in Bogotá and Cali for their group matches. This year’s tournament features a record 24 teams, a significant expansion from the previous 16.
Nigeria has been putting in the hard yards during their training camp, dominating friendly matches against local opposition.
They’ll head to Colombia for a final two-week training camp before their opening match against Korea Republic on September 1st.
With four African teams in the competition – Nigeria, Morocco, Cameroon, and Ghana – the continent will be hoping for a strong showing.
The tournament will be held across three cities: Bogotá, Medellín, and Cali.
