The Copper Queens lost 5–0 in the Group C match played earlier today at Eden Park Stadium, Auckland, New Zealand.

Spain led 2-0 after the first 45 minutes, with goals from Teresa Abelleira and Jennifer Harmoso in the 9th and 13th minutes of the first half of the match, respectively.

Jennifer scored a brace in the 70th minute of the match for the Spanish fourth goal. Alba Redondo scored the Spanish team’s second brace in the match in the 69th and 85th minutes of the second half.

Redondo’s goals were the third and fifth goals for the Spanish women’s football team.

Earlier at Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin, New Zealand, Japan sealed their second group victory after defeating Costa Rica 2-0 to mount the leadership saddle in Group C.

Hikaru Naomoto and Aobo Fujino scored the Japanese goals in the 25th and 27th minutes of the first half.

Japan leads Group C with a superior goal difference after winning two group matches, while Spain is second with six points after winning two group matches.

At Westpac Stadium in Wellington, New Zealand, debutants the Philippines recorded their first ever women’s world cup victory with a lone goal against co-host New Zealand.

Zarina Bolden scored the lone goal in the 24th minute of the first half of the match to give the Philippinos their first ever full World Cup points.

At FMG Stadium, Waikoto, New Zealand, Switzerland, and Norway ended their round two, Group A match, on a barren draw.

Switzerland leads Group A with 4 points after two matches, while New Zealand is second with 3 points.

Philippines is third in the group with 3 points after their lone goal victory against co-host New Zealand.

Norway is last in the group with a solitary point.
