Nigeria’s flag in continental football will be carried high this season as Remo Stars, Kwara United, Rivers United, and Abia Warriors prepare to test their strength in the CAF competitions.
With pride, history, and glory on the line, the four NPFL sides are determined to make their mark and fly the country’s colours across Africa, Footballrover reports.
Remo Stars Ready for Champions League Test
NPFL champions Remo will begin their CAF Champions League campaign in Abeokuta against Comoros side U.S. Zilimadjou.
Due to ongoing renovations at their home ground in Ikenne, the Sky Blue Stars have adopted the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta.
Interestingly, both legs will now be played in Nigeria, as Zilimadjou have also chosen the same venue for their home fixture.
Daniel Ogunmodede’s team is seeking a first-ever progression beyond the preliminary stage, but the challenge ahead is massive, with South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns already waiting in the next round.
Kwara United Renew Jollof Rice Rivalry
Kwara United, winners of the President Federation Cup, are set for a heated battle against Ghanaian powerhouse Asante Kotoko in the CAF Confederation Cup.
The Harmony Boys, backed by their state government, will now host their return leg in Abeokuta after first travelling to Ghana.
The clash is more than just a game—it rekindles the historic football rivalry between Nigeria and Ghana, with Wydad Casablanca waiting for the winner in the second round.
Rivers United Face DR Congo Test
Former NPFL champions Rivers United will also feature in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Led by coach Finidi George, the Pride of Rivers are set to face Democratic Republic of Congo champions Angles du Congo in the preliminary round.
The Port Harcourt side, with their experience in Africa, are confident of progressing to meet either AC Leopards of Congo or Mozambique’s Black Bulls in the next stage.
Abia Warriors Eye Strong Start Against Djoliba
Debutants Abia Warriors will be up against Malian campaigners Djoliba in their first-ever CAF Confederation Cup appearance.
The Umuahia-based club will host the first leg at home before travelling away for the second leg.
It is a huge moment for the club as they look to make history and represent Abia State proudly on the continental stage.
