However, his effort wasn’t enough to rescue the team, as they suffered a narrow 3-2 opening-day defeat against Athletic Club on Sunday evening at the Estadio de San Mamés, Footballrover reports.

Akor Adams Equaliser Not Enough Against Athletic

Akor played a key role in Sevilla’s fightback, providing the equaliser that brought the scoreline back to 2-2.

His pass allowed Lucien Agoume to score and drag Los Nervionenses back into the contest.

Unfortunately, the momentum slipped late in the game as Athletic found a decisive goal to seal victory.

While Adams stole the spotlight, his compatriot Chidera Ejuke also featured in the game.

Ejuke came on just after the half-time break, replacing Stanis Idumbo Muzambo when the visitors were already two goals down.

Athletic Club’s Early Dominance and Sevilla’s Response

The match started in favour of Athletic as Nico Williams converted from the penalty spot to hand them the lead just 36 minutes in.

Maroan Sannadi quickly doubled the lead seven minutes later, sending the hosts into the break with a comfortable advantage.

The away side, however, roared back. Dodi Lukebakio halved the deficit on the hour mark with help from Juanlu Sánchez.

Moments later, Akor turned provider, setting up Agoume for the equaliser that raised Los Nervionenses’ hopes.

But just when the momentum was shifting, Nico Williams turned provider himself, assisting Robert Navarro in the 81st minute to hand the home team a decisive 3-2 win.

What’s Next for the Nigerian Star and His Teammates?

Despite the loss, Los Rojiblancos will take positives from Akor’s strong debut performance.

Both Adams and Ejuke will be aiming to bounce back quickly in their next La Liga fixture against Getafe.

That match also promises a special storyline—a Super Eagles derby with Christantus Uche, who inspired his team to a 2-0 victory over Celta Vigo with a goal and assist.
