Super Falcons star Jennifer Echegini has maintained her impressive form this season, netting a decisive brace to propel PSG Women into the next round of the Coupe de France Féminine.
Following a hard-fought battle against Dijon Foot on Wednesday evening, Echegini’s brilliance ensured the Parisians bounced back in style, Footballrover reports.
Jennifer Echegini Sparks PSG Women Comeback
Echegini opened the scoring and later delivered the match-winner to seal progress at the Stade Gaston-Gérard.
This performance was a much-needed statement after a disappointing outing in Abidjan, where the 24-year-old midfielder and her compatriot, Rasheedat Ajibade, narrowly missed out on the Coupe de la LFFP title following a 1-0 defeat to Lyon.
While Echegini stole the headlines with her clinical finishing, Ajibade was equally vital, putting in a shift for the full 90 minutes to stabilize the PSG midfield.
Record-Breaking Run After LFFP Cup Heartbreak
With these two strikes, the Nigerian international has increased her season tally to six goal contributions—comprising four goals and two assists.
Her versatility is on full display, having scored in the Première Ligue Féminine, the Women’s Champions League, and now the French Cup.
The match remained a cagey affair throughout the first half until Echegini broke the deadlock.
Just before the interval, she fired her team ahead with a stunning free kick that left the keeper stranded.
The hosts fought back early in the second half, with Léa Declercq leveling the scores just eight minutes after the restart.
However, PSG’s resilience was able to see them through in the dying embers of the game.
With just three minute left on the clock, Echegini struck again after a slick combination with Merveille Kanjinga, sealing a 2-1 victory.
With their spot in the next round secured, Echegini and her teammates now shift their focus to Sunday’s league fixture against Montpellier.
