Super Falcons star Esther Okoronkwo delivered a game-changing performance on Wednesday, providing a crucial assist that powered AFC Toronto to a thrilling 3-2 victory over Vancouver Rise.
This vital away win helped Toronto bounce back and climb significantly in the Canada Northern Super League standings, Footballrover reports.
Esther Okoronkwo’s decisive contribution
In an entertaining Canada Northern Super League match, Okoronkwo showed off her skill, bagging her first assist of the season.
Just three minutes into the game, she delivered a precise pass to Emma Regan, who then scored Toronto’s opening goal.
After receiving a pass from Okoronkwo, Regan blasted a screamer into the top of the roof from outside the 18-yard box.
This crucial contribution adds to her impressive record of three goals in eight appearances for AFC Toronto.
The 28-year-old forward played for 72 minutes before being replaced. Her impact throughout her time on the field helped the team snatch all three points.
Pivotal assist against Vancouver Rise
The match saw Toronto take a 2-0 lead when Kaylee Hunter put the visitors ahead just three minutes before the interval. Vancouver Rise went on to cut the deficit through Mariah Lee in the 68th minute.
However, Nikayla Small quickly restored Toronto’s two-goal advantage. Before a late penalty from Quinn made sure 3-2 was the final scoreline.
With that victory, Esther Okoronkwo and her teammates bounced back to winning ways, following the 4-0 home defeat to Ottawa.
Thanks to this victory, AFC Toronto now holds four wins, one draw, and one loss in their last six games.
They have moved up to second place with 13 points, just one point behind league leaders Montreal.
Toronto will aim to continue this strong momentum when they face Calgary Wild on Saturday.
