Sabah FK’s struggles in the Azerbaijan Premier League finally came to an end on Sunday afternoon, thanks to Nigerian forward Jesse Sekidika, who delivered a clutch strike during their clash against Turan Tovuz.
Jesse Sekidika came off the bench to score the match-winning goal for Sabah FK in their 2-1 win at the Bank Respublika Arena, Footballrover reports.
The Nigerian star stepped up when it mattered most, scoring the decisive goal in a tense narrow home victory over Turan Tovuz.
But it wasn’t just about the win—it was the manner in which Sabah FK turned their fortunes around after weeks of frustration.
Sabah FK’s early setback and second-half revival
Coming off a narrow 3-2 defeat to FC Kapaz, Sabah FK desperately needed a turnaround.
However, their nightmare start continued when Turan Tovuz struck first, with Alex Souza finding the net barely 16 minutes into the match.
That early goal left the home fans on edge as Sabah FK trailed at halftime.
But the second half told a different story, as just five minutes after the restart, Sabah FK was awarded a crucial penalty.
Pavol Safranko made no mistake, calmly converting to level the score. With momentum shifting, Jesse Sekidika entered the fray, and it didn’t take long for him to make an impact.

In the 54th minute, Sekidika produced a clutch strike that sealed Sabah FK’s first win in five games.
His well-timed finish marked his second consecutive goal and took his season tally to seven in 21 appearances.
Remarkably, he achieved this feat despite only playing 45 minutes after coming on as a second-half substitute.
With the much-needed three points, Sabah FK’s winless streak—comprising two draws and two defeats—was finally snapped.
However, they remain in 5th place with 31 points, still trailing Turan Tovuz by five points.
Up next, Sabah FK will look to build on this momentum when they face Sabail in their next league encounter.
