Desperate for a response, Alonso introduced Tella on the hour mark before calling on Boniface in the 76th minute.

Patrik Schick ignited hope with a stoppage-time equaliser, forcing extra time in front of a roaring home crowd.

Just eight minutes into extra time, Boniface completed the turnaround.

The Nigerian striker calmly side-footed home from close range, handing Leverkusen the lead for the first time and securing their place in the semifinals.

Boniface’s decisive strike marked his tenth goal of the season, making it back-to-back campaigns where he has reached double digits for Leverkusen.

The Super Eagles forward has featured in 17 matches across all competitions this season, and his latest heroics reinforce his importance to Alonso’s squad.

As Leverkusen continues their title defence, Boniface’s extra-time winner could prove to be a defining moment in their DFB-Pokal journey.
