Victor Osimhen has finally revealed who he believes deserves to take over as the next African Player of the Year, and his choice is none other than his Super Eagles teammate, Ademola Lookman.
Osimhen is backing Lookman to claim the prestigious title, praising his fellow Nigerian for his consistent hard work and professionalism, Footballrover reports.
According to Osimhen, Lookman has been a remarkable player for both club and country, making him the perfect candidate for the award.
Lookman has certainly built a strong case for himself, with stellar performances that have caught the eye across the football world.
He was able to shine brightly during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, where he netted three goals in seven appearances for the Super Eagles and earned a spot in the Team of the Tournament.
But that’s not all. Lookman also delivered a stunning hat-trick in the UEFA Europa League final for Atalanta against Bayer Leverkusen, showing off his brilliance on the European stage.
Most recently, he bagged a brace to help Nigeria dominate Benin Republic 3-0 in their AFCON 2025 qualifier.

Speaking on the Counter Attack podcast, Osimhen expressed his joy at seeing Lookman rise to this level, sharing that he knows some of the winger’s backstory and is proud of how far he’s come.
“He’s a passionate guy; he does his job diligently,” Osimhen said.
The new Galatasaray striker went on to state with confidence that Lookman is destined to win the African Player of the Year award.
