Victor Osimhen’s star continues to shine, and even Chelsea legend Didier Drogba is taking notice.
After the Super Eagles striker’s remarkable performance against Benin in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Drogba singled out Osimhen as a modern embodiment of his own playing style, Footballrover reports.
Didier Drogba Sees Himself in Victor Osimhen
Speaking to Sporty TV following Nigeria’s commanding 4-0 win over the Cheetahs in Uyo, Drogba did not hesitate when asked which current player mirrors his style of play on the pitch.
The Galatasaray striker’s hat-trick not only secured Nigeria a playoff berth but also left a lasting impression on the Ivory Coast icon.
Drogba praised Osimhen as a role model, highlighting his rise from humble beginnings to international success and his ability to inspire young footballers.
“Because of him, people in Ivory Coast, they are like, ‘Ah! You know, go with your Osimhen,’” Drogba said. “He is the kind of person that should inspire the youth. He came from nowhere and then became successful.”
Victor Osimhen’s Rise Reflects Modern Striker Excellence
Osimhen’s impact at Galatasaray has been nothing short of extraordinary.
Recall that during his loan spell last season, the 26-year-old Nigerian international netted 37 goals in 41 appearances, setting a new record for the most goals scored in a single season by a foreign player in Turkey.
His performances were instrumental in Galatasaray securing the Süper Lig title and the Turkish Cup, culminating in a €75 million permanent transfer from Napoli.
This season, Osimhen has continued to impress. In just five matches, he has scored two goals, and his hat-trick was crucial in keeping Nigeria’s World Cup hopes alive.
Following the international break, Osimhen has returned to Galatasaray and was spotted in training ahead of their away clash against Başakşehir FK in the Süper Lig later today.
