The match, played in front of a mesmerised crowd of 8,630 spectators, saw the Nigerian side produce a dominant performance that left their Japanese counterparts shell-shocked, Footballrover reports.

Despite the emphatic victory, Sporting Lagos coach Shola Adegun remained grounded.

The tactician attributed the win to a combination of factors beyond his team’s control, insisting they were “lucky” to emerge triumphant.

While speaking to Myleague.com, he hailed the win as a “huge success” and praised his team’s dominance throughout the tournament.

The young coach acknowledged the players’ self-motivation and ambition, highlighting this as a key factor in their success.

He commended them for “believing and competing every day,” recognising the immense opportunity this tournament presented.

However, Coach Adegun admitted that a touch of fortune played a role.

FC Tokyo, who had been an unstoppable force throughout the tournament, winning all their games while scoring a staggering 14 goals, seemed to run out of steam within the first ten minutes of the final.

This unexpected development gave Sporting Lagos the perfect opportunity to seize control and ultimately claim the trophy.

“I think we were lucky the opponent was tired. But credit to us, we were physically fit and ready,” Adegun conceded.

Beyond luck, Coach Adegun emphasised the team’s collective effort. He described their approach as a balanced one, attacking and defending with equal vigor.

He also commended the goalkeeper for some crucial saves that kept FC Tokyo at bay.
