Former Rivers United goalkeeper, Ovunda Darlintin, put in man of the match performance in a thrilling encounter against Beyond Limits FA during the ongoing Value Jet Cup 2023 at the Ikenne Stadium in Kogi State.
In an intense and one-sided match, the Sky Blue Star Academy boys dominated the game, constantly pressuring their opponents, the Oluyole Warriors.
Ovunda Darlintin, positioned in goal, was repeatedly put to the test as Beyond Limits bombarded him with shots throughout the game.
The Academy boys managed to secure an early lead just 16 minutes into the contest, thanks to a brilliant strike by Onyebuchi Obasi that beat Ovunda inside the area.
Despite Beyond Limits’ efforts to extend their lead with a penalty opportunity in the second half, their star player Onyebuchi Obasi missed the target, keeping the scoreline close.
With the clock winding down, Kayode Oke rose to the occasion, scoring a powerful header and leveling the match for Shooting Stars.
However, shortly before the final whistle, Shooting Stars faced a setback as their defender, 31-year-old Alex Aghahowa, received a red card, reducing the team to ten men.
In the end, the game ended in a 1-1 draw, denying Remo Stars’ youth team a deserved victory, given their impressive performance.
Ovunda Darlintin’s remarkable saves and resilience in the face of relentless attacks earned him the well-deserved title of Man of the Match.
As a reward for his outstanding display, the goalkeeper received a generous sum of 100k and the prestigious Optimus Bank Man of the Match award.
