Celtic captain Callum McGregor has hailed Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho for his seamless start to life in Glasgow, describing the striker’s quality and attitude as “amazing”.
Iheanacho joined Celtic Park on a free transfer after the summer transfer window closed and has quickly made his presence felt, Footballrover reports.
‘You Can Tell by His First Strike’ – McGregor on Iheanacho’s Talent
The Nigeria international has scored two goals and provided one assist in just four appearances, including strikes against Kilmarnock and Crvena Zvezda and a crucial assist away to Partick Thistle.
Speaking to the Speaking to the Glasgow Times, McGregor praised Iheanacho’s pedigree and natural talent.
— “The first time I saw him, you can just tell by the way he hit the ball — you think, ‘Right, he can play,’” the Celtic skipper said.
“He’s played at big clubs and worked under the manager at Leicester as well. You can see he’s a good player.”
McGregor stressed that Iheanacho still has what it takes to compete at the highest level, despite limited game time at his previous clubs.
‘Amazing Attitude’ and Smart Business by Celtic
The captain highlighted the striker’s professionalism and hunger to succeed.
— “The reason we’ve got him is probably because he was lacking a bit of game time and just needed to get up to speed,” McGregor added.
“The good thing is, he’s come in, and his attitude’s been amazing.”
McGregor also praised the club’s decision to sign the Nigerian forward, emphasising the importance of timing in transfers.
— “Good business comes in many forms. You don’t always need to pay big money for good players—it’s about getting them at the right time and keeping them hungry,” he said.
Iheanacho’s early contributions suggest Celtic may have pulled off a smart piece of business, adding depth and experience to their frontline as they target success in domestic and European competitions.
