After helping her team, Al Ittihad, earn bragging rights in their recent Super Falcons derby against Asisat Oshoala’s Al-Hilal, Francisca Ordega has done it again.
The Nigerian forward grabbed another assist to lead her team to a hard-fought home victory in the Saudi Women’s Premier League, Footballrover reports.
Francisca Ordega’s playmaking masterclass leads Al-Ittihad to victory
Ordega set up the opening goal of the match as the hosts eventually snatched a late winner to secure a 2-1 victory over Al-Qadsiah at the Prince Faisal bin Fahad Stadium.
The 32-year-old has now registered an assist in two consecutive games for Al-Ittihad and could have easily had more, having created the most chances (3) against Al-Qadsiah.
The experienced forward now boasts four goal contributions this season: one goal and two assists in the league, alongside another assist in the SAFF Women’s Cup.
While Ordega stole the spotlight on the pitch, her compatriot Ashleigh Plumptre was sidelined due to injury.
In a touching pre-match gesture, the team held her jersey aloft before kickoff, wishing her a speedy recovery.
The Round 12 clash saw Ordega set up Leticia Nunes just on the stroke of halftime, allowing Al-Ittihad to take a narrow lead into the interval.
A Late Winner and Table Climb for Al Ittihad
However, that lead didn’t last long as the visitors equalized in the second half. It took the away side 27 minutes into the second period to level the score through Adriana Leal de Silva.
Just when it looked like the spoils would be shared, Lina Boussaha delivered the decisive blow four minutes before the final whistle to hand Al-Ittihad the win and all three points.
On the back of Ordega’s playmaking, Al-Ittihad has now secured back-to-back wins in the league, moving up to second place on the table with 25 points.
Riding this wave of momentum, they will now prepare for their next fixture against Al-Ahli next Friday.
