Super Eagles forward Emmanuel Dennis delivered a decent performance for his new club, Brondby IF, as they were held to a goalless draw at home by Sonderjyske in the Denmark Superligaen—extending their winless run to seven matches.
Dennis made his third appearance for the hosts but was unable to influence the outcome, with both sides settling for a stalemate at the Brondby Stadium, Footballrover reports.
Emmanuel Dennis Strives for Sharpness as Brøndby Search for Spark
In the three games he has featured in so far, Brondby have failed to secure maximum points, recording two draws and a defeat.
Still, it is encouraging to see the 28-year-old getting valuable minutes under his belt—202 across three appearances—after spending a lengthy period without a club.
However, it was not entirely a smooth outing for the forward, who is still working his way back to full sharpness in a bid to rediscover his best form.
His afternoon took a concerning turn when he picked up an injury in the 89th minute and was replaced by Viggo Poulsen.
There has been no official update from the coach regarding the severity of the knock.
Dennis was not the only Nigerian involved in the encounter. Ebube Duru also featured for Sonderjyske, coming on in the 61st minute as a replacement for Simon Waever.
Dennis was at the heart of proceedings as Brøndby failed to pick up three points in their final home game of the regular season.
With crucial points at stake ahead of the Superliga split, Dennis produced one of the hosts’ most promising moments.
Early in the second half, he unleashed a superb long-range effort destined for the corner, only to be denied by Sønderjyske goalkeeper Marcus Bundgaard’s sharp save.
Dennis Injury Scare Rocks Brøndby’s Playoff Momentum
While the match ended 0-0, the point secured Brøndby’s place in the Championship play-offs and kept them third in the standings.
The visitors had threatened earlier, but Patrick Pentz’s fine stop ensured parity.
Despite late pressure and a few nervy moments in the visitor’s box, Brøndby could not find a breakthrough.
Attention now shifts to their final regular-season fixture away to FC Midtjylland at MCH Arena, where they might play without their Nigerian forward.
