Nigerian youngster Promise Meliga continues to build a strong reputation for himself in Europe, finding the net once again to inspire Kristiansund to a convincing home win over Fredrikstad over the weekend.
The Remo Stars academy graduate opened the scoring as the hosts cruised to a 2-0 victory during the Norwegian Eliteserien clash at the Nordmøre Stadion, Footballrover reports.
Promise Meliga shines as Kristiansund secure dominant win
Meliga, who made his first start for the club, delivered an impressive display.
He recorded a perfect 100% passing accuracy among players who featured for at least 45 minutes and capped it with a left-footed finish from close range, firing into the high centre of the goal after a set-piece situation.
The 18-year-old has now scored three goals in his first five matches of the season, proving why he should be trusted to lead their frontline.
Despite his standout performance, Meliga’s outing lasted 58 minutes before he was replaced by Leander Alvheim.
Alvheim wasted no time in making his mark, scoring just two minutes after coming on to double Kristiansund’s lead and secure all three points.
Meliga was not the only Nigerian involved in the fixture.
Mustapha Isah also impressed, putting in a solid shift before being substituted in the 86th minute for Nikolai Skuseth.
Other Nigerian players shine across Europe and beyond
It was also a weekend of pure “Naija Boy” magic across the globe! From the heat of India to the tactical pitches of the Czech Republic, Nigerian players weren’t just making up the numbers—they were making the headlines.
India: Punjab FC’s Nigerian Connection
Punjab FC secured a dominant 3-0 home win over Inter Kashi, and it had “Made in Nigeria” written all over it.
Nsungusi Effiong was the architect, bagging a goal and an assist, while Bede Amarachi Osuji put the icing on the cake with a clinical third to seal the points.
Czech Republic: Super Subs & Crucial Points
In the top flight, Abdullahi Tanko proved to be the ultimate game-changer for FC Pardubice.
Coming off the bench in the 61st minute, he needed just nine minutes to net the lone winning goal against Viktoria Plzen. Talk about an impact!
Meanwhile, down in Liga 3, David Okoromi rescued a point for Slovacko B with a 78th-minute equaliser, while Ebuka Okeke managed a late consolation for Hradec B.
Lithuania: Tom Lucky is the Man!
The performance of the weekend goes to Tom Lucky. The FK Suduva man came off the bench to fire home a dramatic 83rd-minute winner in a 3-2 thriller against Dziugas, rightfully earning the Man of the Match honours.
In the I Lyga, Kazeem Ojo and Sabiya Abdulrahman also found the back of the net in their respective outings.
Latvia & Albania: Braces and Bankers
Latvia: Lawis Waris was in a mood, bagging a ruthless brace in FC Metta’s 5-0 demolition of Rezeknes.
Albania: Harrison Izuchukwu Jiakponna clinched a 2-0 win for FK Laci, while Tayo Abiodun earned a point for KF Kukesi with a late strike.
Slovakia: A big shoutout to Abbati Abdullahi, who bossed the midfield for 86 minutes and registered a sweet assist in MFK Skalica’s 4-1 win.
Whether it’s starting XIs or super-sub appearances, the green-white-green flag was just flying high.
