After scoring a crucial brace of penalties in Libya to help Al Taawon secure a hard-fought away draw against Al Anwar, Isaac Success was unable to replicate that feat when they hosted Al Hilal Benghazi.
The 30-year-old Super Eagles star had a golden opportunity to score his seventh goal of the season but missed a penalty, only for his team to settle for a frustrating goalless draw, Footballrover reports.
Isaac Success Penalty Miss Stalls Al Taawon Title Charge
In the 34th minute, Success was rewarded with a penalty to put Al Taawon in front. However, his effort hit the woodwork, and the match remained goalless.
The situation worsened in the 88th minute when Abdullah Balaam received a second yellow card, reducing Al Taawon to 10 men.
Despite this setback, the team managed to hold on and secure a point, leaving them in 4th place with 29 points, just three points behind league leaders Military Union.
Eze’s Penalty Miss Leads to Sariyer Defeat
It was also a disappointing day for Emeka Eze in Turkey’s 1. Lig, as his missed penalty contributed to Sariyer’s 3-1 defeat against Istanbulspor.
The 29-year-old forward had the chance to score his 11th goal of the season during the round 36 clash at Necmi Kadioglu Stadyumu, but his miss proved costly as Sariyer saw their unbeaten run end.
After a cagey start, André Poko gave the visitors the lead just before halftime.
Eze, who had received a yellow card early in the match, was handed a golden opportunity to extend Sariyer’s lead, but his penalty miss just six minutes into the second half shifted the momentum.
Istanbulspor equalised through Alieu Cham, and with two more goals from Duran Sahin and Muhammed Mert, the match ended 3-1 in favour of the home team.
The result dropped Sariyer to 14th place on the TFF First League table, tied with Istanbulspor on 46 points.
