Super Eagles stars—Paul Onuachu, Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi, and Akor Adams—all delivered standout performances across Turkey, England, and Spain as Nigerian forwards and midfielders influenced key league results.
From goal streaks to emotional comebacks and creative assists, the weekend belonged to these Nigerian players abroad, Footballrover reports.
Paul Onuachu’s Goal Streak Powers Trabzonspor’s Winning Machine
Paul Onuachu continued his red-hot form in the Turkish Süper Lig, firing Trabzonspor to a 2-1 away win over Gaziantep on Sunday.
The towering striker struck the decisive goal during a chaotic five-minute spell in the first half, as three goals turned the contest on its head.
After Gaziantep went ahead through Mohamed Bayo in the 22nd minute, Trabzonspor responded instantly, with Felipe Augusto levelling two minutes later.
Onuachu then completed the turnaround in the 27th minute, calmly finishing from close range after finding space in the middle of the box.
The goal means he has now scored in five straight league matches — the longest scoring run of his Trabzonspor career across two spells.
With 17 goals in 20 league appearances this season, the 31-year-old has already surpassed the 15 he registered in 21 games during his previous loan stint in 2023/24.
Ndidi Returns With Emotional Goal for Beşiktaş After Family Bereavement
In another Turkish Super Lig game, Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi delivered a superb performance, scoring to inspire Beşiktaş to a commanding home victory over Göztepe.
It was an emotional return to the starting XI for the Nigerian midfielder, who opened the scoring barely nine minutes into the game.
Fresh from Nigeria, where he laid his late father to rest, Ndidi marked his comeback in the most fitting way possible — by finding the back of the net.
The encounter was his first appearance since travelling home for his father’s burial, and the goal took his Süper Lig tally to two for the season.
Wilfred Ndidi’s effort came via a powerful header, setting the tone for Beşiktaş’ dominant 4–0 triumph at Tüpraş Stadium.
In an emotional celebration, the Super Eagles skipper paid tribute to his late father, Mr Sunday Ndidi, with a heartfelt salute after scoring.
Michael Murillo doubled the hosts’ advantage, Junior Olaitan added a third, and Oh Hyeon-gyu sealed the comprehensive win.
Iwobi Masterclass Helps Fulham End Losing Run in England
In England, Alex Iwobi played a decisive role as Fulham ended their three-game Premier League losing run with an impressive 3-1 victory over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
The Nigerian midfielder combined creativity and composure, first turning provider before getting on the scoresheet himself.
Early in the second half, Iwobi delivered a pinpoint corner that Raul Jimenez converted to open the scoring.
The Mexican forward soon doubled Fulham’s advantage from the penalty spot after a foul on Calvin Bassey.
Although Sunderland pulled one back through Enzo Le Fee following a spot-kick of their own, Fulham remained in control.
Alex Iwobi then sealed the result in style. Latching onto a defence-splitting pass during a swift counterattack, he calmly lifted the ball over the advancing goalkeeper to secure his third league goal of the campaign.
His all-round display proved central to Marco Silva’s side climbing back into the top half ahead of their next test against Tottenham Hotspur.
Arokodare Misses Penalty as Wolves Fall Late in Tight EPL Battle
In another English Premier League game, Tolu Arokodare endured a frustrating afternoon as Wolverhampton Wanderers slipped to a narrow 1-0 defeat against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
The Nigerian striker had a golden opportunity to put Wolves ahead before the break but saw his penalty comfortably saved by Dean Henderson, who dived the right way to deny his low effort.
That moment proved crucial in a contest where clear chances were scarce. Arokodare had earlier tested Henderson from a distance, but Wolves struggled to truly threaten despite steadying themselves after a bright start from the hosts.
Their task became even tougher shortly after the hour when Ladislav Krejčí was sent off, leaving the visitors to battle with ten men.
Wolves appeared set to escape with a point, but substitute Evann Guessand struck late to hand Palace victory and end their lengthy home winless streak.
For Tolu Arokodare, who has two league goals this season, it was a missed opportunity on a difficult day.
Adams Provides Winning Spark as Sevilla Edge Getafe
In Spain, Akor Adams delivered a key assist to help Sevilla secure a hard-fought 1-0 away victory over Getafe in their La Liga Round 25 encounter at the Estadio Coliseum.
The 26-year-old striker played 89 minutes before making way for Gerard Fernández, and his contribution marked his fourth league assist of the campaign.
In total, he has now registered 10 goal involvements in 21 appearances this season, with six goals and four assists in La Liga, in addition to one assist in the Copa del Rey.
Ten-man Getafe’s four-match unbeaten LaLiga run ended with the narrow home defeat to Sevilla, who claimed only their second win in nine league games and a third straight clean sheet at the Coliseum.
A physical first half turned decisive when Getafe captain Djené was sent off for a reckless challenge.
Despite their advantage, Sevilla initially struggled to create clear chances. After the break, Akor Adams proved pivotal, helping spark the move that led to Djibril Sow’s composed finish.
Getafe pushed late on, but Odysseas Vlachodimos’ crucial save preserved Sevilla’s narrow victory and lifted them above their hosts in the table.
