Nigerian forward Chiwendu Ihezuo continued her fine scoring form on Tuesday morning as she powered Pachuca Femenil to a statement 2-0 victory over Monterrey women in the Liga MX Femenil Apertura.
The visitors struck twice inside three minutes in the first half, with Nina Nicosia opening the scoring before Ihezuo doubled the lead, leaving Monterrey stunned in front of their own fans at Estadio BBVA, Footballrover reports.
Chiwendu Ihezuo’s Clinical Finish Shifts Momentum
The result keeps Pachuca firmly in the playoff race while pushing Monterrey down to seventh.
Monterrey started brightly, pressing high and pushing for an early breakthrough, but Pachuca’s defensive discipline frustrated the hosts.
Against the run of play, Nicosia capitalised on a defensive lapse in the 24th minute to slot home the opener.
Before the Rayadas could regroup, Ihezuo struck again. The Nigerian forward showed her trademark composure, finishing clinically just two minutes later to give Pachuca a commanding lead and silence the home crowd.
It was Ihezuo’s fifth goal of the 2025/26 Liga MX Femenil season, showing her consistency after back-to-back 15-goal campaigns for the club.
Pachuca Strengthen Playoff Push
The second half saw Ihezuo replaced by María Mauleón, while Monterrey failed to capitalise on their numerical advantage after Yirleidis Minota was sent off.
Despite pushing forward, the hosts lacked precision in the final third, and Pachuca’s backline held firm until the final whistle.
This result not only halted Monterrey’s momentum but also highlighted Pachuca’s credentials as serious contenders.
Sitting second in the Apertura standings, level on points with leaders UANL, Pachuca are showing they can match the league’s top sides.
With Cruz Azul up next, Ihezuo and her teammates will be eager to build on this impressive away victory.
