Ebenezer Akinsanmiro delivered a commanding performance as Pisa held Fiorentina to a 1–1 draw at the Stadio Romeo Anconetani on Sunday, earning their second point of the Serie A season.
The 20-year-old Nigerian midfielder, on loan from Inter Milan, was the heartbeat of Pisa’s midfield, winning the Man of the Match (MOTM) award for his tireless display, Footballrover reports.
Ebenezer Akinsanmiro: The driving force in Pisa’s Serie A survival push
His performance not only frustrated a Fiorentina side led by veteran goalkeeper David De Gea but also showed his importance to Pisa’s survival bid.
Akinsanmiro’s impact was felt in every area of the pitch, as he was the most fouled player on the night, consistently disrupting Fiorentina’s build-up.
His ability to win duels in midfield gave Pisa the stability they needed against a technically gifted opponent.
Reflecting on the match, Akinsanmiro told DAZN:
“We played with great determination and deserved a different result. It was a tough battle in midfield for me, as I’m still adjusting to my first games in Serie A. I’m very happy to be named the best on the pitch, and I hope to repeat it.”
The Nigerian has now started three of Pisa’s five league matches this season, showing consistency that could soon earn him a long-awaited Super Eagles call-up.
Praise from Gilardino for Midfield Trio
Pisa coach Alberto Gilardino was full of praise for his midfield engine room, especially Akinsanmiro.
“The three in the middle did a dirty job, running hard and showing quality,” Gilardino told Calciopisa. “Caracciolo, Touré, and Akinsanmiro were superb in every way. Along with the one against Bergamo, it was one of our best games.”
Despite the draw, Pisa’s performance offered hope to their fans.
