Crystal Palace head coach Oliver Glasner has dropped a major hint that Christantus Uche could be handed a new attacking role as they prepare to face West Ham United in the Premier League.
The summer signing is yet to make a starting debut, but his versatility may soon give the Eagles some fresh firepower, Footballrover reports.
Glasner Considers Christantus Uche in a New Role
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Oliver Glasner revealed that Uche could be an option either alongside or in place of Jean-Philippe Mateta, who has started all eight matches for Crystal Palace this season.
Uche, who joined Palace on transfer deadline day, has featured only as a substitute so far, making brief appearances against Sunderland in the Premier League and Millwall in the Carabao Cup.
Palace Banking on Uche’s Physicality and Creativity
The 22-year-old Nigeria international is naturally suited to the No. 10 role, where he links midfield with attack and creates chances for teammates.
However, Glasner’s comments suggest he may be tested in a more advanced striking position to offer Palace greater flexibility in the final third as they head to East London this time around.
— “Yes, he could be. He’s also physical. “He’s an option that we are considering,” Glasner said, as quoted by the club’s official website.
Last season at Getafe, Uche proved he could mix creativity with end product, scoring four goals and providing seven assists across 38 appearances.
That blend of productivity and physical strength could be crucial as Palace look to extend their unbeaten run on Saturday afternoon.
With West Ham United up next, fans might likely be taken in that direction as Glasner gives Uche his chance to shine from the start or continues to ease him in from the bench.
