Nigeria international Peter Olayinka has officially joined APOEL FC in the Cypriot First Division, marking a fresh chapter in his career.
The 30-year-old forward was unveiled on Thursday, February 12, signing a short-term deal with the 29-time Cypriot champions that will keep him at the club until May 2026, Footballrover reports.
Peter Olayinka: A Comeback After Months on the Sidelines
After being inactive for nearly four months following the mutual termination of his contract at Red Star Belgrade, Olayinka is finally ready to return to competitive football.
The forward’s move to APOEL Nicosia provides him with a platform to show off his experience and goal-scoring ability in one of Europe’s competitive leagues.
Having played in Albania, Northern Cyprus, Belgium, Czech Republic, and Serbia, Olayinka brings a wealth of experience to his new team.
Over 364 career matches, he has scored 102 goals and contributed 61 assists, and that shows he’s such a consistent attacking threat.
European Pedigree: Champions League Heroics
Olayinka is no stranger to the big stage. He once marked his UEFA Champions League debut for Slavia Prague with a memorable goal against Inter Milan back in September 2019, netting at the iconic San Siro stadium.
That performance highlighted his ability to deliver in high-pressure situations—a trait APOEL will hope to leverage as they aim to climb the Cypriot First Division table.
On the international front, Olayinka has represented the Super Eagles, featuring in two games at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations against Guinea-Bissau and Tunisia.
His blend of international and European experience makes him a valuable addition for APOEL as they prepare for their clash against Ethnikos Achna, currently sitting sixth in the league with 36 points after 21 matches.
For APOEL, the forward’s proven goal-scoring record and Champions League pedigree could provide the boost needed in the season’s final stretch.
With his debut on the horizon, Olayinka’s move is not just a personal comeback—it’s a chance for APOEL to strengthen their attacking options with a player capable of making decisive contributions.
