Yusuf Otubanjo was the hero of the day for FC Pyunik Yerevan as they booked their spot in the UEFA Europa Conference League playoffs with a hard-fought 2-0 aggregate victory over FC Ordabasy.
The Nigerian striker netted the only goal of the game in a tense encounter at the Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium, securing a 1-0 win for his Armenian side, Footballrover reports.
Pyunik carried a slender 1-0 advantage from the first leg in Kazakhstan, and Otubanjo’s strike sealed the deal in front of their home fans.
Despite dominating possession, Ordabasy struggled to break down a resolute Pyunik defence.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 66th minute when Otubanjo’s clinical finish sent the home crowd into a much-needed deep cheer after he dribbled his way past two defenders to score.

The Nigerian was, however, replaced late in the game as Pyunik held on to secure their place in the next round.
Otubanjo and his teammates will now turn their attention to domestic duties as they face a crucial Armenian Premier League match on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian duo of Toyosi Olusanya and Dennis Adeniran were unable to prevent St. Mirren’s exit from the Europa Conference League.
The Scottish side suffered a 3-1 defeat to Brann, ending their European campaign with a 4-2 aggregate loss.
A host of other teams also managed to secure their spots in the playoffs, including Legia Warszawa, St. Patrick’s Athletics, Zira, Copenhagen, CFR Cluj, Kilmarnock, Istanbul Basaksehir, FC Noah, and Djurgaarden.
