In a thrilling quarter-final match held at Estadio del Bicentenario in San Juan, Israel emerged victorious with a 3-2 win over Brazil in extra time.

The game began with a goalless first half, but Marcus Leonardo broke the deadlock for Brazil in the 56th minute. However, Anan Khalalili equalized for Israel just four minutes later, leveling the score at 1-1.

In the 91st minute, Martins Nascimento put Brazil ahead again, making it 2-1. However, Kevin Macedo quickly responded for Israel, scoring in the third minute of extra time’s first half to bring the score to 2-2.

The decisive moment came in the third minute of the second half of extra time when Dor Turgeman found the back of the net, securing a historic semi-final qualification for Israel in the U-20 men’s football World Cup.

With Brazil’s elimination, they join Ecuador and the host nation, Argentina, as the third South American team to exit the tournament on home soil.

Meanwhile, Italy has secured a spot in the semi-finals of the 2023 U-20 World Cup after defeating the South American representative, Colombia, with a 3-1 victory at Estadio del Bicentenario.

Cesare Casadei, Tommaso, and Francisco Pio Esposito scored Italy’s goals in the 9th, 38th, and 46th minutes of the first half, respectively.

Johan Torres managed to pull one back for Colombia in the 49th minute of the second half.

Colombia’s elimination adds them to the list of three other South American nations, Brazil, the host Argentina, and Ecuador, who have exited the tournament.

Uruguay remains the sole South American representative, and they will face the United States of America in the last quarter-final match of the 2023 U-20 World Cup.
