Members of the Wikki Tourists FC Supporters Club narrowly escaped tragedy on Saturday, enduring a harrowing accident along the Jos-Lafia road in Nasarawa Eggon while en route to watch the highly anticipated Wikki Tourists vs. Nasarawa United match in Lafia.
Despite the severity of the accident, fortunately, no lives were lost. However, several members sustained injuries of varying degrees, and the vehicle incurred significant damage.
The distressing incident was revealed by the club’s media on Saturday evening, prompting swift action from the management.
Another vehicle was quickly dispatched to transport the remaining members to Lafia to ensure their safety and continuity of support for the team.
In a gesture of solidarity, Auwal Gotel, the Chairman of Wikki Tourists FC, expressed his sympathies to the Supporters Team.
This unfortunate event follows closely on the heels of another tragic road accident involving six officials from Delta Queens FC just days earlier, on Tuesday, March 19, 2024.
Footballrover previously reported that the incident occurred near Ijebu Ode as the team journeyed to their Matchday 10 clash against Remo Stars Ladies in Ikenne.
Fortunately, in that instance as well, there was no loss of life. However, the recurrence of such incidents shows the need for heightened safety measures for football teams and their supporters during travel.
