The new player, Koulibaly, is such a classy sportsman; before assuming the number 26 jersey, he first called John Terry and asked his permission.
Many Chelsea supporters are overjoyed that their team signed the defender as a result of this wonderful gesture.
On social media, Kalidou Koulibaly shared a video of him speaking with Chelsea veteran John Terry and requesting permission to wear the legendary number 26 shirt for the team.
Over the course of his illustrious 19-year career with his beloved club, Terry won 17 awards with the Blues, 16 of which he took home as captain.
John Terry responded to Koulibaly’s initial statement that his English wasn’t that good by assuring him that his fluency was actually rather good.
“Sorry for my English, my English is not so good, I would like to do my best. John, I wanted to ask you something because you know I played with 26 at Napoli, and I see since you left the club nobody has taken 26. I don’t know if you retired it or if nobody wanted to take it, but I wanted to ask you if it was possible for me to take it.”

John Terry replied to Koulibaly on the phone saying;
“The number 26 was very special to me and I really appreciate you calling, and it’s no problem for me for you to take it. Absolute pleasure. I wish you well because I know how important the number was to me, and obviously to see you wear 26 as well, my pleasure mate. I’ll give you the 26.”
Before Terry pushed him to continue the team’s tradition of winning titles, Koulibaly acknowledged the former Chelsea captain and maintained that the jersey would still be challenging to wear.
Koulibaly, who will be making his Premier League debut for the Blues along side Raheem Sterling, will surely be putting on Jersey No. 26 on that very day with John Terry proud to have a solid player taking over his number.
