The technical adviser of Rivers United, Stanley Eguma, has claimed that his team had learned a valuable lessons after being eliminated at the quarterfinal round of the CAF Confederations Cup.
Eguma made this statement while speaking to the media after his side lost to Young Africans, Tanzania, in the quarterfinal of the continental tournament by a scoreline of 0-2 on aggregate.
The technical adviser highlighted that even though his team had some achievements, they also acquired crucial lessons.
He further claimed that his team made sure Nigeria NPFL teams kept her four spots in the CAF club competitions the following season.
“It’s disappointing to crash out of a continental championship. If we had a better game plan in the first leg it would have been a different situation in the reverse fixture because the boys came out to play stronger in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania.” – he said.
The TA added that;
“It’s a big lesson for us, but we are looking out for better performance in the nearest future.”
It was the first time in club’s history to reach the quarter final stage of the continental football championship.
Meanwhile, the Port Harcourt outfit has also crashed out of the 2023 Federation Cup unexpectedly.
The Stanley Eguma side lost to Enyimba FC 5-4 on penalties after a goalless draw in the Federation’s Cup Round of 64 on Thursday.
Even though both teams had numerous opportunities to win the game at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, penalties were ultimately necessary to determine the winner.
