Viktoria Plzen boss Miroslav Koubek has showered Nigerian forward Rafiu Durosinmi with praise after the 22-year-old played an important role in his team’s crucial 2-0 win over Teplice on Sunday.

Scoring a sensational brace, Durosinmi not only secured the victory but also marked a triumphant return to action with MOTM performance after a long and frustrating period on the sidelines.

After a challenging 18-month goal drought, Durosinmi’s two-goal performance was a moment of redemption, making his first start in over a year a memorable one.

His last goal came on September 30, 2023, in a 2-1 defeat to Sparta Prague.

But injuries, including a knee setback, had delayed his comeback and went as far as causing a planned January 2024 move to Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt to fall through.

Despite these challenges, Plzen’s management stood by Durosinmi, and the young forward rewarded their faith in stunning fashion.

Durosinmi’s contribution was instant. In the 42nd minute, he opened the scoring with a composed finish after a well-executed counterattack, latching onto a clever pass from Pavel Sulc.

Barely three minutes later, Durosinmi doubled Plzen’s advantage with another brilliant strike, linking up well with Jiří Panos before slotting a right-footed shot past the Teplice goalkeeper.

Coach Koubek was full of admiration for Durosinmi’s quality, acknowledging his extraordinary potential.

“He is a striker of extraordinary quality. He will help Plzen when he reaches the level he had before the injury,” Koubek told the club’s media.

He continued to highlight the interest Durosinmi had attracted from Bundesliga clubs, praising his vast array of strengths.

“If I had to list his strengths that sparked that interest, there would be countless. Everyone can see how great a player he is.”

Koubek also expressed satisfaction with Durosinmi’s fitness progress, with the forward completing a solid 60-minute shift.

“I think he did well in today’s 60 minutes, which will move him forward,” Koubek added. “We are very happy that he scored two goals and that he will be able to play the whole half.”

His success against Teplice gives Viktoria Plzen renewed hope as they continue to challenge for top spots in the Czech Liga.

Despite sitting 10 points behind leaders Slavia Prague, they remain second, with a three-point cushion over third-placed Sparta Prague.

With confidence now firmly restored, Durosinmi looks to maintain his form in the upcoming UEFA Europa League playoff second leg against Ferencváros.

After a 1-0 deficit in the first leg, Plzen will need every bit of Durosinmi’s magic to overcome the challenge and progress.

If his performance against Teplice is any indication, he could prove to be the difference-maker on the European stage.
