Victor Osimhen’s 10th goal of the season helped Galatasaray extend their unbeaten run in the Turkish Super League, securing a crucial 3-2 victory over Sivasspor.
The Nigerian forward’s decisive penalty in the first half gave his side a lead, but the match was far from straightforward, Footballrover reports.
Despite a shaky start, Galatasaray held their nerve to claim all three points and remain at the top of the table.
Early miss and a red card shake Galatasaray
Galatasaray’s chances of taking an early lead seemed promising when Osimhen drove into the box just eight minutes into the game, unleashing a powerful shot that narrowly missed the left post.
However, the match took a dramatic turn when Sivasspor’s Metehan Baltaci was shown a straight red card in the 16th minute, reducing the home side to ten men.
Sivasspor strikes first, but Galatasaray responds
Sivasspor took the lead in the 25th minute through Rey Manaj, who capitalised on a rebound off the goalkeeper following a superb save.
Garry Rodrigues was quick to pounce on the loose ball and fired it into the roof of the net, giving the home side a 1-0 advantage.
Galatasaray responded in the 36th minute, as Yunus Akgun’s weak shot found its way into the net after a goalkeeping error, levelling the score at 1-1.
Osimhen’s 10th goal gives Galatasaray the lead
Just before halftime, Osimhen seized the moment. After a foul in the box, he calmly slotted home a penalty in the top right corner, past Sivasspor goalkeeper Djordje Nikolic, to put Galatasaray 2-1 up.
Second half and late drama
The second half saw Yunus Akgun assist Baris Alper Yilmaz for a composed finish in the 53rd minute, extending Galatasaray’s lead to 3-1.
Despite a late goal from Sivasspor in added time, Galatasaray held on to secure the win, with the final score 3-2.
Galatasaray’s unbeaten streak continues
With the win, Galatasaray maintained their unbeaten record in the 2024/25 season, now with 12 wins and two draws from 14 league games.
Their strong form at the top of the Turkish Super League continues, with Osimhen playing a crucial role in their success.
