Just weeks before the kick-off of Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025, Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen has shown he is fully fit and ready for the tournament after scoring twice to inspire Galatasaray to a hard-earned home win in their Turkish Super Lig clash on Friday evening.
Osimhen struck Galatasaray’s second goal and later delivered the match-winner as the Lions nearly surrendered a two-goal cushion but still edged Samsunspor 3–2 at RAMS Park in Super Lig Round 15, Footballrover reports.
Victor Osimhen Hits Double Figures Ahead of AFCON 2025
The Nigerian forward has now hit double digits for the season after playing the full 90 minutes.
The 26-year-old registered his fifth league goal of the campaign, taking his tally to 11 goals in 14 matches for the Turkish champions — including six goals in the Champions League.
His last goal for Galatasaray came on November 5, when he scored a hat-trick against Ajax in the Champions League.
Afterwards, he went two games without scoring, with his rhythm briefly halted by an injury picked up during Nigeria’s World Cup playoff against DR Congo.
Galatasaray Regain Momentum in Super Lig Title Race
Galatasaray started brightly as Leroy Sané opened the scoring within eight minutes, finishing calmly from Lucas Torreira’s pass inside the box.
Sané then turned provider 21 minutes later. After carrying the ball from deep, he spotted Osimhen’s run and sent a perfect through pass that the striker collected before beating his marker and the goalkeeper to make it 2–0 — another trademark Osimhen finish from a tight angle.
Before that goal, the Lions had two close chances in quick succession through Osimhen and Sané. First, the keeper denied Osimhen’s effort from an Abdülkerim cross, and moments later Sané fired over from Osimhen’s cut-back.
Samsunspor pulled one back through Anthony Musaba 11 minutes into the second half, setting up a tense finish. The visitors then stunned the home crowd with an equaliser in the 88th minute.
But in added time, Osimhen stepped up once more — producing a brilliant bicycle kick to seal Galatasaray’s victory.
After a narrow Champions League defeat to Union Saint-Gilloise and a 1–1 draw with Fenerbahce in the league, this win puts Galatasaray back on track as they remain top of the Turkish Super Lig.
With renewed confidence, Osimhen and his teammates now shift focus to their Champions League showdown against Monaco on Tuesday night.
