Galatasaray’s hopes of a crucial win were dashed early when AZ Alkmaar’s Sven Mijnans found the net just two minutes into the game.

The early setback left the visitors with a serious battle, and they were forced to chase the game from the outset.

Galatasaray’s response came late in the first half. Osimhen, who had been a constant threat, finally got on the scoresheet with a powerful header in the 43rd minute.

However, much to his dismay, the goal was later changed to an own goal by Peer Koopmeiners, leaving the Nigerian international disappointed.

Despite dominating the game with 60% possession and creating numerous chances (19 attempts to Alkmaar’s 5), Galatasaray’s finishing let them down.

The inability to convert chances into goals meant they were forced to settle for a draw, leaving them with mixed emotions after the match.

Osimhen’s reaction to the Europa League draw was a mixture of frustration and recognition of his team’s effort.

Frankly, we had a good performance tonight. The team we are against is also a good team. I think they are very successful individually and as a team. We created a lot of chances; actually, we could have scored the second goal.

“I think we need to take the positive side; this is a score. I would also like to thank our fans very much. They did not leave us alone in this weather and supported us for 90 minutes.”

The draw keeps Galatasaray unbeaten in the competition as they inch closer to securing an automatic place in the Round of 16, but the need to convert chances remains a crucial talking point.
