In a remarkable fashion, Victor Osimhen, the striker for Napoli, has emerged as the winner of the Serie A Golden Boot, in what is likely to be his final season with the Italian club.
During Napoli’s final match against Sampdoria, the Nigerian international scored the first goal in their 2-0 victory.
As a result, Osimhen finished the season with 26 goals, surpassing Lautaro Martinez from Inter Milan by five goals.
Boulaye Dia secured the third spot, while Rafael Leao and Ademola Lookman claimed fourth and fifth positions respectively.
This achievement further solidifies Osimhen’s reputation as one of the most well-rounded forwards in Serie A, as he successfully claimed the 2022/23 Golden Boot award.
In a fitting end to the season, Osimhen sealed his historic accomplishment by scoring a penalty in Napoli’s 2-0 win on the final day at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium.
Notably, the Nigerian forward becomes the first African player in the 125-year history of Italian top-flight football to win the Serie A Golden Boot.
He now holds the title of Capocannoniere, which is given to the top scorer in the league.
This remarkable feat not only makes Osimhen the first African to achieve this honor in Italian football history, but he has also surpassed his childhood hero George Weah as the highest-scoring African player in Serie A of all time.
Victor Osimhen’s outstanding season will be remembered for years to come.
He played a pivotal role, contributing to a total of 30 goals in Serie A, including 26 goals and 4 assists, which helped Napoli secure the Serie A trophy with 90 points.
This is their second-highest point total in a Serie A season.
