Victor Osimhen Scores Hat-trick as Super Eagles Wreck Sao Tome

The Super Eagles today defeated Sao Tome and Principe 6-0, with Victor Osimhen scoring a hat-trick in Group A, round 6, of the Africal Cup of Nations qualifier match played at the main bowl of Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, Akwa Ibom.Victor Osimhen Scores Hat-trick as Super Eagles Wreck Sao Tome

It took the Super Eagles only thirteen minutes to indicate their readiness to make mincemeat of the Falcons and True Parrots of Sao Tome and Principe.

The Super Eagles and Napoli striker scored his first goal through a header inside the opponent’s eighteen-yard box off Lookman Ademola’s corner kick in the 13th minute of the first half.

In the 27th minute of the half, Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred’s midfield combination resulted in another goal as Ademola Lookman was well positioned to finish up the Super Eagles second goal.

In the 51st minute of the second half, Kelechi Iheanacho again tipped off a pass to Nottingham Forest dangerman Taiwo Awoniyi to score the Super Eagles third goal of the match.

The Super Eagles coach made two swift changes to his starting line-up in the 64th minute of the second half with the introduction of Victor Okoh Boniface and Joe Aribo in place of Taiwo Awoniyi and Frank Onyeka.

Five minutes later, in the 69th minute, Victor Osimhen scored the fourth goal from the spot.

Samuel Chukwueze came in to replace Kelechi Iheanacho, while defender Tyronne Ebuehi substituted Ola Aina in the 73rd minute of the second half, and Chukwueze quickly set up a brilliant pass for Victor Osimhen to score his hat-trick and the Super Eagles fifth goal of the match.

Samuel Chukwueze made it 6-0 in the 84th minute of the second half with an assist from striker Victor Okoh Boniface.

The Super Eagles convincing 6-0 victory against Sao Tome and Principe means the team qualified for next year’s AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire with 15 points after six rounds of matches.

The Napoli Star was later named man of the match for his stunning performance.

Guinea-Bissau is occupying the second spot with 10 points after an outstanding match.

Sierra Leone is third on the log with 5 points and an outstanding match.

Sao Tome and Principe has only one point to show for all their efforts in the qualifier.

Also today in Group B’s round 6 game, the host, Togo, defeated Cape Verde 3-2, with Cape Verde sealing its AFCON ticket with 10 points after 6 rounds of matches.

Burkina Faso led the group with 11 points and a qualification ticket for next year’s continental football championship.
