Victor Osimhen delivered a sensational performance, scoring a first-half brace to lead Galatasaray to a hard-fought 3-2 win over Tottenham in the Europa League.
The Nigerian striker’s explosive display not only propelled his team to victory but also added another chapter to his growing reputation as one of Europe’s most lethal forwards, Footballrover reports.
With the Super Eagles star firing on all cylinders, Tottenham found themselves outclassed by Osimhen’s clinical finishing.
The match had its fair share of drama, with both teams showing moments of brilliance and vulnerability.
It only took Galatasaray six minutes to take the lead. Yunus Akgün’s superb first-time shot from the edge of the box gave Tottenham’s goalkeeper no chance, finding the top right corner with precision.
The early goal set the tone for an intense and fast-paced encounter.
Tottenham responded quickly, however, as Brennan Johnson’s pass found Will Lankshear, who made no mistake in tapping the ball into an empty net.
The game was now level at 1-1, and Tottenham seemed to be gaining some momentum. But Osimhen had other plans.
Osimhen dominates as Galatasaray takes control
Just 31 minutes into the match, Osimhen made his presence felt, pouncing on a perfectly timed through ball from Dries Mertens.
The Nigerian forward unleashed an unstoppable strike into the bottom right corner, restoring Galatasaray’s lead at 2-1. Eight minutes later, Osimhen was at it again.
This time, he met a perfectly delivered cross from Mertens deep inside the box, and his accurate strike doubled Galatasaray’s advantage as they headed into the break with a commanding 3-1 lead.
The second half saw further complications for Tottenham. In the 60th minute, Will Lankshear’s reckless challenge earned him a second yellow card, reducing Spurs to ten men.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, Tottenham fought back, with Dominic Solanke pulling one back for the Premier League side after a close-range strike in the 69th minute.
Galatasaray held firm, though, and with the 3-2 victory, Osimhen’s brace sent a clear message.
The Turkish giants, now full of confidence, will carry this momentum into their upcoming Super Lig clash with Samsunspor, where Osimhen will undoubtedly be looking to add to his growing tally.
